– How to make your book look more professional?
– Which fonts work best?
– Is your margin sufficiently large?
– How to set the desired page size?
As a self-publisher, you need to take points mentioned above into account.

Choose size
The page layout for your book file is similar to your book cover. When you choose ‘paper size’ you can change your format size in Word. (in Word). Most of the books that are not found in bookstores are printed ideally on A5 or 6 x 9 inches. Though there is no any compulsion for it and you can even print on larger sizes like A4, US Letter or a square of 21 x 21 cm.

Choose Font
If you choose a font size of 11 or 12 points, then it will be easier to read your text. Choosing a serif font typeface is also recommended. A serif font typeface has small features called serifs at the end of strokes. Letters will get more diversified with the use of such serifs and make them easily recognizable next to other letters. Serifs also enhance the readability of your text.
A serif typeface also improves the reading comfort as it guides the reader over the rules of text. Now you might understand that why these types of fonts are much often used in books and newspapers. The most well known and commonly used serif typeface is “Times New Roman.“ Still, you need top quality serif typeface, then choose for Garamond.

Determine margins
It is always advisable to keep your top, bottom, and outside margins at least 12,5mm. For the inside margins, you need to provide a little more margin because some part of your book get disappeared in the book spine. 20mm is a right and comfortable margin for the printer to place the book in the cover.

Formatting styles
In Word like, word processor software, you can make use of several styles. And further, these styles can be used for titles of chapters or paragraphs. Uniformity is the best advantage of working with styles throughout your document. You need not required continuously to set your layout choices. If you opt one of your styles, the complete text to which this style was applied, will change automatically.

Header- footer and page numbers
Undoubtedly, a page number is very much crucial for a book. The ideal placement for page numbers is center or bottom of the page. Rarely you find a page number in the middle of the right side of the book. So, you can easily insert page numbers where you see the ‘footer.’ You can also add a chapter reference on each page and can make use of ‘section breaks’ in the ‘page layout’ menu to add this in each header.
